Cutting Rimstripes from the roll

A valid question from Gord Henderson in Kelowna, BC:

Question: When cutting a stripe off the roll is it important to keep an even/parallel/straight cut so the tape is applied, by the applicator, perfectly straight?

Answer: No. It is not important at all that the cut be even/parallel/straight cut. What is important is that you don't cut into the stripe. That is a no brainer, of course. It will take you a few minutes to cut them all apart. Take your time. It is not very hard.

Here’s what is happening: The backing paper separates from the tape before the tape routes through the slot below the bridge of the tool and the backing paper simply peels away during installation. The tape then routes through the tool, around the felt covered spool, and is held in place by the left and right guide plates of the tool, which keeps the tape aligned and running straight during installation.

This has always been a key part of the intended tool design.
